Hygrometer card (or humidity display card, humidity indicator card, HIC) is a card used to display the humidity condition of a sealed space. The data above or to the side of the circle corresponds to the relative humidity data indicated by the circle.

There are two types of humidity cards: with cobalt and without cobalt:
Cobalt humidity card ( not meet the latest EU exit standard and is not environmentally friendly): It judges the humidity status intuitively from the color change. Its principle is based on the color change of the substance by the chloride cobalt after absorbing water. [Co(H20)4Cl2] is blue [Co(H2O)6]2 is red The humidity card is blue when it is dry. If the color in the circle changes from blue to pink, it indicates that the humidity in the packaging has reached or exceeded the relative value corresponding to the circle.
The humidity card is a reversible change. If the humidity exceeds the corresponding humidity value, the color changes from blue to red. If the humidity lower than the corresponding humidity value, the humidity card that has turned pink can turn back to blue, but it takes longer for the color to change from pink back to blue, and needs enough desiccant to restore the humidity card to the blue state.
The cobalt-free humidity indicator card is a safe, convenient, and inexpensive method to the humidity of the environment. Users can quickly judge the humidity inside the product packaging and the effect of the desiccant by the color on the card. If the humidity in packaging exceeds or equals the humidity value, the corresponding point on the card will change from dry color to hygroscopic color, which can simply know the effect of the desicc.
In 2004, the EU environmental protection regulation (2004/73/EC) has listed cobalt chloride as a class carcinogen. Now, it is forbidden to use substances containing cobalt in the humidity indicator card. All products exported to EU countries must comply with the requirements of this regulation. Therefore the humidity indicator card (from blue to pink) which is mainly composed of cobalt chloride will soon be prohibited. For example, SONY company prohibits the use of humidity cards containing cobalt chloride and other products in the SS-00259) 8th edition.
